Why GoFan Doesn't Use Scanners for Digital Ticketing

GoFan Digital Ticketing and Event Management for Schools

Picture this: it’s Friday night. You’ve spent the past week preparing for the big game. Your football team is getting ready to take the field. Home and away fans are making their way to the stadium. Your event staff members are waiting at the gate to validate digital tickets.

But they can’t. The scanners aren’t working.

Now the lines are getting longer. Fans are becoming frustrated. Gate attendants are trying to remain calm and address concerns. You’re trying to find a solution.

Your ticketing provider assures you that they are working hard to resolve the issue. In the meantime, you have no way of validating tickets securely. You either let fans in the game without validating their tickets, or you make them wait.

This is a highly stressful situation that can be completely avoided. Regardless of how long it takes to get the scanners back up and running, the event experience has already been tarnished. Your fans have missed important moments, and your busy staff must work even harder to respond to complaints.

That’s why GoFan doesn’t use scanners.

We’ve seen the potential pitfalls, and we devised a secure alternative that doesn’t require any hardware or additional equipment.

How to Use Digital Tickets with GoFan

With GoFan, digital tickets are validated directly on the fan’s mobile device. When fans arrive at the gate, they simply select the tickets they want to use and present their phone to a gate attendant.

At this point, an authorization screen will display a green button that says “Use Tickets.” The gate attendant confirms that the tickets are valid by pressing the “Use Tickets” button (or observing as the fan presses it). A green checkmark will appear to signal that the tickets are valid.

This authorization step prevents invalid or duplicate tickets. It’s also much faster and easier than scanning for both staff and fans. Even when scanners are working properly, it often takes a few tries before a ticket is successfully redeemed. When validating thousands of tickets, these extra time delays add up quickly.

Secure Ticket Transfer

This validation process also prevents the use of screenshots. While other ticketing providers may allow screenshots and printed tickets, these practices can cause security vulnerabilities.

Screenshots and printed tickets can be shared without providing any contact information, so there is no way of confirming whether the person who purchased the ticket actually attended the event. Should a list of attendees be required in case of an emergency, many scanned tickets will have inaccurate or missing contact information.

Should fans wish to send tickets to someone else with GoFan, they can transfer them securely via text or email with just a few clicks.

Accurate Event Data and Financial Reporting

Ticket usage data updates in the event management platform in real time. Event staff members can easily view the number of tickets used, confirm timestamps of entry, and verify attendees as needed.

The secure verification process ensures accurate financial reporting as well. Authorized users can run reports for tickets sold, event attendance, and revenue received. These reports can be automated or generated on demand at any time.

Advantages of Ticket Redemption without Scanners

In summary, the GoFan ticket redemption process ensures:

  • No dependence on unreliable scanners and equipment
  • Secure ticket validation for all fans attending events
  • Prevention of duplicate or invalid tickets
  • Accurate attendance tracking
  • Exact revenue and financial reporting
  • Complete guest list
  • Real-time capacity management
  • The fastest event entry experience
